After earning a Master’s in English Language and Literature, Nick discovered design by accident while writing reviews for a London magazine. Watching his words transform during the early days of ‘Desktop Publishing’ sparked his passion.

He taught himself Pagemaker, QuarkXPress, and Photoshop. Nick then worked with architects, studios, and agencies, creating everything from promotional materials to packaging.

He quickly learned that great design starts with genuine interest in the subject.

Crafting Exceptional Books in New Zealand

Returning to magazines as a designer reignited Nick’s creativity. In 1995, he moved to New Zealand and worked at Cuisine magazine. He then became Art Director at Hodder Moa Beckett, where he honed his book design skills.

In 2003, he founded Red Inc, combining his love of books and design. Red Inc now serves individual authors and major publishers locally and globally.

His work spans memoirs, novels, and children’s books. His latest book, How to Eat a Huhu Grub, is illustrated by his son, Conrad.
