Barcode Information
Understanding Barcodes and Their Importance
Barcodes are essential tools for businesses, enabling efficient tracking and management of products throughout the supply chain. A barcode consists of two main components: the barcode number (Global Trade Item Number or GTIN) and the barcode graphic (symbol) that can be scanned. These elements work together to uniquely identify products, facilitating quick and accurate transactions.
Types of Barcodes
In New Zealand, the most commonly used barcode is the EAN-13, which is suitable for retail products. For books and magazines, ISBN and ISSN barcodes are used, respectively. Additionally, 2D barcodes, such as QR codes, are gaining popularity due to their ability to store more information and provide enhanced consumer engagement.
